What do we do?
The charity Feed Our Future aims to help school and pre-school children in getting the most out of their education. Our primary goal is to get school lunches to each of the children in our chosen schools. We would also like to, however, make the learning environment for the children as comfortable and conducive to learning as possible. We would also like to make the learning process more enjoyable for the children by enriching their education with school trips and other extra-curricular activities.
Our plans for 2011
We have chosen to help a very run-down, dilapidated crèche inDiepsloot that has roughly 145 children aged 0-6 years old. There is so much that needs to be done at the crèche, such as:
Plastering the walls
Screeding/ carpeting the floors
Putting functional doors on the classrooms
Getting desks and chairs for the classrooms
Providing the children with crayons and other basic stationary.
We also hope to have an Easter egg hunt for the children for Easter, and organise a trip to the JHB zoo later on in the year.
We would like to establish a media centre where the children could come for one afternoon a week to read book and watch educational videos.
How can you help?
Donations: there are various forms of donations that would benefit the charity. These include:
Funds- The charity will direct your funds into the area we feel the money would benefit the children best
Food- a donation of a loaf of bread a week or a packet of rolls a month etc. Would be greatly appreciated by the children who do not get a school lunch.
General- any old clothes, blankets, toys or furniture would be greatly appreciated! Anything that is donated that can?t be used will be sold and the money given to the charity.
Time: You could put your skills to good use by helping plaster, carpet and renovate the crèche.
You could volunteer to assist the children with reading when the new media centre has been established.
If you are a skilled organiser you could organise various events such as the Easter egg hunt for example.
There are many more ways that you can assist in the charity. Some examples are: we are constantly looking for sponsors who would be willing to put an underprivledged child through school,
We also would require transport for the children when taking them on field trips etc.
If you would like to get involved in an area not mentioned above, please give me a call, there are so many facets of the charity that could use your help!
